I knew our CEO was crazy, but...

The moment news broke that Samsung's going to a 6-day work week

'Samsung works 6 days, so a startup like ours should have 6.5 days worth of passion.'"

'It's all for your growth.'"

He's been saying this since this morning's meeting, and apparently plans a total overhaul of our hours going forward... is this normal?

💡 Wait, 6.5 days a week? That's not even a real number.
Samsung's policy actually only applies to a handful of senior executives, not regular staff — but this founder used the headline to demand his tiny startup outwork Samsung, inventing a nonsensical half-day on top of a full week.vs. the US: like citing a rival's 80-hour brag to demand unpaid weekend overtime.Klore note
💡 Why frame overtime as 'passion'?
Korean workplace culture, especially at startups, often dresses up unpaid extra hours as devotion to the company's mission ('열정,' passion) rather than calling it what it is.vs. Silicon Valley: like hustle-culture rhetoric, but with far less room to refuse.Klore note

Even if they paid us like Samsung, I'd still be skeptical about this.

6-day and 5-day weeks feel totally different. With 5 days you feel refreshed by Monday, but 6 days feels like work never stops.

With a 6-day week, even resting on Sunday doesn't feel like actual rest.

That unwanted 'growth' talk—does he think employees are Pokemon or Digimon leveling up?

Other companies actually run 5-day weeks and still don't get as much done as we do on weekdays.

Even 5.5 days would drive me insane, nobody would be free to hang out with me.

Fun fact: Samsung's 6-day week was only for executives, not all employees.

You're not Samsung so you can't pay like Samsung, but you sure talk like a hypocrite the second you open your mouth.

Do you pay like Samsung? Do you give benefits like Samsung? There are so many brainless bosses who copy big companies without giving proper treatment.

If a boss says 'this is all for you,' 'it'll help you later,' or 'you need to grow more,' run away—they're almost always trash.
