About Klore
Korean online communities produce a constant stream of posts that are genuinely funny, strange, or revealing — and almost none of it survives translation, because the joke usually lives in context you'd only have if you grew up there. Klore takes what's trending in Korea and explains the missing context in English, so you actually get it instead of just seeing it.
How a post is made
Someone reads the actual original images — not the headline, not the thumbnail. Korean community posts are mostly images with the text burned in, and a lot of them are tall montages where the whole point sits in small subtitles. Those get sliced into high-resolution strips and read properly before anything is written.
Then, for each post:
- the Korean text is transcribed as it actually appears;
- it's translated into normal, casual English — how a friend would explain it;
- the lore is written: the norms, wordplay, memes, history, or people you'd need to know, each with an overseas comparison where one fits.
Every post is checked by a person before it goes up. All of this is written once and served as a static page — nothing is generated while you're reading.
The difficulty label
Each post carries a label from Anyone gets it to Extremely Korean. It measures one thing: how much Korea-knowledge the post assumes. It's a heads-up, not a quiz and not a rating of quality — and it has nothing to do with whether content is appropriate.
What we won't publish
Korean community feeds contain plenty we won't touch. Independently of how interesting something is, we drop anything NSFW, hateful, doxxing or personally attacking, graphic, or otherwise unsafe. Politically charged posts are handled carefully or skipped. We exclude or blur identifiable faces of private individuals. When it's a close call, we drop it.
Sourcing & credit
Every post links back to where it was trending, and that link is mandatory — a post cannot be published without one. The images belong to whoever made them; the translation and the lore are our original work. If you're a rights holder, or you're in one of the photos, our takedown page explains how to get something removed.
Getting it wrong
Sometimes we will. If a translation is off, a piece of context is wrong, or a post misrepresents what actually happened, tell us at hello@getklore.com — corrections are welcome and we will fix them.
