Went to the clinic the other day and a nurse looked at my bag and went 'unique taste you've got^^ is that a cicada brooch?' I thought about it for a good 5 seconds and no matter how hard I tried I had no memory of pinning on a cicada brooch, so I concluded: this is a real cicada. I froze up and said '...I think it might be a real cicada..' and every nurse ran away저번에 병원갔는데 간호사님이 내 가방보고 취향 특이하시네요^^ 매미 모양 브로치에요?

💡 Why did it take five seconds?
She had to rule out owning a cicada brooch before concluding it was real. The nurses' compliment turned into a group evacuation.vs. the US: complimenting a pin that then blinks at you.
💡 How does a bug pass as jewelry?
Korean summer cicadas are chunky, palm-sized, and famous for gripping clothes and bags without moving. A motionless one really does read as a brooch.vs. the US: like a cicada-brood year, but every single summer.

EN ›The "brooch." A real cicada, sitting on her jacket.
