Went to Myeongdong Gyoja and the foreigners behind me kept glancing around looking for something, so I couldn't help myself and asked 'do you need help?' They said they didn't get why every other table had kimchi except theirs, so I told the staff and got them some....

💡 Wait, the refills there are actually free?
Plenty of Korean restaurants give unlimited refills on rice, broth, or noodles, but it's often unwritten local knowledge rather than something posted anywhere.vs. the US: like a diner that comps bottomless fries but only regulars know.Klore note
💡 What's Myeongdong Gyoja anyway?
It's a decades-old, hugely popular kalguksu (hand-cut noodle) and mandu chain in Seoul's Myeongdong tourist district, famous for long lines of locals and tourists alike.vs. NYC: like a legendary deli every Times Square visitor feels obligated to queue for.Klore note

    If they translated everything else, that one omission looks intentional... if true, that's shady as hell.

    다른 건 병기해줬으면 저건 의도 같은데..진짜면 너무 음흉하잖아;;

    I've been going there for almost 40 years but stopped recently. Last time I got takeout dumplings, they charged extra for kimchi separately. Dumplings got blander too, taste went downhill. So annoyed I quit going.

    명동교자 내가 거의 40년을 넘게 다녔는데 요즘은 안감.. 최근에 마지막으로 가서 만두 포장해왔는데 이제 포장만두에는 김치 안주고 따로 돈받음... 만두 간도 약해졌고 김치도 맛 약해짐. 괘씸해서 안간다

    Lived near there 15 years ago and tried it since it's famous. Honestly wasn't that great, didn't get the hype. I went to a Chinese place nearby way more often.

    난 15년 전에 명동 근처 북창동에 살 때 유명 하다고 해서 가봤는데 이게 그렇게 유난 떨 정도의 맛인가? 싶을 만큼 딱히 취향은 아니었음 차라리 명동에 꽁시면관이라고 좀 유명한 중국집 있는데 거기를 더 자주 갔음

    Only the Itaewon branch still tastes like the old Myeongdong Gyoja. The garlic kimchi is addictive and the noodles are good too.

    I don't like it, the noodles are mushy. Went a few times with friends but the staff attitude was pretty bad too.

    난 여기 퍼진 면 식감이라 별로 안좋아함 몇번 지인들따라 갔지만 점원들 태도도 영 별로고

    I tried it this year and thought the dumplings were legit good. If this is already the watered-down version, imagine how strong the original recipe must've been.

    올해 명동교자 먹어보고 만두 맛이 진짜 제대로다 싶었는데 이것도 맛이 약해진거면 원래 레시피는 얼마나 맛이 강렬했대.

    Went there cause it's famous but honestly it was just meh.

    Unless my taste buds suddenly died this year, it's definitely blander than before. Checked my records, I ate there in July.

    올해 갑자기 내 혀가 맛탱이가 간게 아니면 예전 간보다 슴슴해졌음 기록보니까 7월에먹었네
